Summer Sounds // A Playlist by Sam Huntley

Summer Sounds // A Playlist by Sam Huntley

The sun is out, the shades are down, and the music is loud which means we’re well into the British summer. I’m back to bring you the hottest new alternative tracks going so without further ado, these are my summer sounds of right now:

ALLIGATOR // OF MONSTERS AND MEN

Fire up your engines and aim for the coast. Iceland-giants Of Monsters and Men just dropped their new record ‘Fever Dream’ last week (26th July), and they’re sporting new rock n’ roll wheels. Track one, ‘Alligator’ is a lively beast living for your car stereo.

HOUSEPLANTS // EASY LIFE

Easy Life’s ‘Houseplants’ is a summer love song full of feel-good vibes [“I just wanna take you out for the summer”]. Rap meets new-wave jazz.

AT LEAST I LOOK COOL // SASHA SLOAN

Strong and intoxicating, this new pop hit from LA artist Sasha Sloan lures you under its spell as it tames the illusion of image. Get used to the name because she’s blowing up fast.

DEATH OF ME // PVRIS

Alt-rock trio Pvris are back with a bang. ‘Death Of Me’ primes the band for chart-worthy heights whilst retaining their authentic goth edge. Refined electro pop with a chorus that pops off.

BAGS // CLAIRO

The young, talented Clairo brings us more lo-fi gold. A break from her zany bedroom pop, ‘Bags’ is a beautiful guitar-ballad with shades of 90s alt-rock.

I’VE BEEN MISSING YOU // VICTORS, PIPPA

Fuel your summer nights with this retro-vibe link-up from Victors and Pippa. Get down to the synth on this 80s-style mover.

WHAT AM I TO DO? // EZRA COLLECTIVE, LOYLE CARNER

‘Pioneering the new wave of jazz’, London’s Ezra Collective are making moves with mega talent. ‘What Am I To Do?’ features Loyle Carner and it’s as calm as you like. Right now they’re gracing the festival circuit (they smashed their Glasto set) so catch them if you can.

CRASH MY CAR // COIN

Rowdy and radio-ready, with a shout-out chorus, this new alt-pop anthem from Nashville trio COIN could be straight out of a YA movie. Fit for all your movie-like misadventures.

WILL WE TALK? // SAM FENDER

Following the success of ‘Hypersonic Missiles’, Brit-award winner Sam Fender is cruising to stardom. His new single ‘Will We Talk’ keeps the momentum with superb vocals and Springsteen-like gusto. His debut album ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ is out in September.

LATELY // METRONOMY

The synth gets real in Metronomy’s first release in three years. The English electro-rockers draw from Bowie, Motown and soul and the result is a fun indie fusion. Late night road trip material.
