York nightlife heavyweights DROP. have been pushing UK underground music here for nearly 3 years now, spearheading the recent surge in York’s previously limited music scene. Known for their diverse bookings, from the likes of Preditah to Ms Dynamite the DROP. team have been repping the best in Grime, Garage, UK Funky and bassline just as the scene has come into its own. 2017 was a huge year for the guys at DROP. and 2018 is set to be even bigger.
They kicked off last year with an energy-fuelled set from West London grime up-and-comer AJ Tracey whose ascendancy has since been guaranteed, rounding off a jam-packed year with a killer set from UK bass pioneer NYTA. Interspersed with sets from Novelist, Zed Bias, P-Money, Plastician and Murlo to name a few. DROP. also introduced us to their Sessions series, bringing a series of exclusive shows showcasing some amazing UK talent you just might not have heard of just yet. Combining in-depth interviews and intimate live sets to give you an insight into what fuels the up and coming bright minds of the UK scene, we can’t wait for the continuation of this series going into 2018.
2018 kicked off in true style, with UK rap royalty 67 blowing the roof off Fibbers with their heavy drill-inspired bangers to a capacity crowd. Next up is one of our favourite bookings yet, with legendary Bristolian underground double act Kahn & Neek taking to the booth – a rare treat for any city to see them outside of Bristol. As producers, they continue to innovate, working with legendary artist including the likes of Flowdan, Mala and Sir Spyro, whilst releasing music on huge imprints such as Deep Medi, Warp and Tectonic. While their productions continue to wow, their DJ sets are legendary. With sets rooted in sound system culture, they incorporate dubplates and exclusive releases into genre-bending sets, spanning the broad breadth of underground music, from early dubstep, to forward-thinking grime, to innovative UK bass music and everything in-between. This is certainly not one to be missed, so join them in the iconic Mansion basement for a night that will make your heart tremble – quite literally. That is only the start of what is set to be a huge year for DROP. with another handful of monster bookings in their pockets. Next up is Hardy Caprio a name currently everyone’s lips, will close up this term with a set of playful underground bangers combining his cold flow and silky beats. Caprio continues to fly the flag for Croydon, expanding on what Stormzy has done for the ever-expanding south London grime scene. His mixtapes have turned heads in music circles and he’s been duly rewarded with radio play on Radio 1, Kiss and Capital Xtra. The success of his 2017 summer anthem ‘Unsigned’ is unrivalled and put him firmly in both the charts and the underground. With the follow ups in playful and infectious Super Soaker and C’mon, Caprio is on trajectory right for the top. This is your chance to catch him in an intimate venue, before he’s selling out huge venues, trust us, that’s where he’s heading.
