I was first introduced to Coasts by a friend. Picture the scene, three 17 year-old girls, one break up and a heck of a lot of chocolate. There are certain songs that capture your interest instantly and ‘Oceans’ was that song. We listened to it on repeat that evening.

Fast forward almost three years, and Coasts have grown and grown. The hit single ‘Oceans’ was joined by other unapologetically Indie tracks including ‘Modern Love’ and ‘A Rush of Blood’.  With a debut album under their belt and second on its way, the Bristol-based five-piece are about to embark on a mammoth UK tour.

You might recognise some of their original material. The band performed live in Series 10 of the E4 reality television show ‘Made in Chelsea’ as well as at Maida Vale for BBC Radio 1. Performing is nothing new to the group who met while studying at Bath University and began gigging in 2012 and it’s something they do well. In 2014 ‘A Rush of Blood’ was made Zane Lowe’s ‘Hottest Record’.

Coasts’ more recent singles have seen less critical acclaim but includes familiar feel-good guitar riffs and poignant song writing.

The 21st September will see their York tour date, but what can you expect? The band’s steady growth has seen them take to countless festivals this summer. The return to more intimate gig venues should be a refreshing change for the members Chris Caines (Vocals), Liam Willford (Guitar), James Gamage (Bass), David Goulbourn (Keyboards) and Ben Street (Drums).

And if the scale of the upcoming tour and publicity campaign are anything to go by, they’re hungry. Expect no holding back, expect loud, expect energetic.
