In support of their brand new album ‘Big Balloon’, Mancunian indie pop quartet Dutch Uncles will descend upon The Wardrobe in Leeds on March 3rd as part of their nationwide tour. Five albums deep into their career, the band have further honed their style of dramatic Kate Bush-inspired weirdo pop by incorporating the more idiosyncratic elements of 80’s New Wave into their oeuvre. The result is their most confident release yet, with songs like ‘Big Balloon’ and ‘Streetlight’ displaying the group’s willingness to marry sonic experimentation with infectiously catchy motifs.
As the music video for ‘Flexxin’ can attest to, lead singer Duncan Wallis possesses some mean dance moves, and I dare say he isn’t afraid to use them in a live setting. Expect plentiful moments of quirky interpretative dance allied with the rhythm of their unique sound.
