Alt-rock band Embrace are holding their third rendition of The Secret Festival on September 3rd; a unique, late summer occasion in which the line up won’t be revealed until 48 hours before you’re there.
The Brighouse born band have been performing secret shows since their beginning but have since expanded and transformed that idea to their dream of a secret festival. Embrace created The Secret Festival as a family event, with music to suit a variety of audiences. Reviews from previous attendees have stated the festival has a community like atmosphere, with positive vibes. Last year’s performers have included stars from Feeder and The Zutons as well as the likes of Starsailor and The Magic Numbers.
2015’s event moved the festival from Hertfordshire to the suburbs of Leeds, in the Edwardian stately home and estate; Lotherton Hall. A suitable Yorkshire location, for a Yorkshire band. As front man Danny McNamara said: “we’re very proud of our Yorkshire roots so it’s good to be able to put something back into the local community”.
The Secret Festival was born in 2014 and was quick to win Best New Festival at the UK Festival awards the same year. It has since been nominated for 2015’s awards of Best New Festival and the Grass Roots Award; an achievement that supports communities, an ethos which is sure to resonate with much of Yorkshire.
Although little is known of the line up, Embrace will headline their own event coinciding with the release of The Secret EP; their first fresh music since 2014. This will be alongside a promised selection of “very exciting surprises” after the pressure of increased expectations year on year. Embrace’s Secret Festival should be a perfect way to end the summer with good music and good company, but we won’t know quite what to expect until we’re there.
