On Wednesday, Swim Deep will be gracing York with their own brand of acid krautrock-infused indie pop, having released their second studio album, Mothers, on Chess Club Records/RCA just weeks ago.
Formed in 2011 and hailing from Birmingham, the band have taken a slightly new direction with their most recent album “We wanted to radicalise chart music, so we’ve taken [Kanye West’s] ‘Yeezus’ and [Fleetwood Mac’s] ‘Rumours’ and put them together with acid house.” These guys are young and full of energy, producing what they call “Psychedelic Sex Music”… But in all seriousness, this new album is an impressive piece of work, with Williams describing it as an attempt to make “a modern day ‘Screamadelica’ … something that pushed the boundaries of electronic music and rock ‘n’ roll”.
Whatever it is, it’s going to be a fun show.
