Preview: Texture’s 1st Birthday, Joseph Williams, 19/2/15
What is texture?
‘The feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or substance.’
Texture are a dynamic and growing collective of DJs and creative individuals focused on throwing parties across the country. The collective will be hosting their 1st Birthday this month at Sotano, and despite being around for only a year, they have already made a sizeable impression in York.
Texture first began as a homegrown project in Huddersfield started by Longman, simply as a platform for sounds going on under the radar. They soon expanded across to York, welcoming down guests from local friends to those further afield in Leeds, London & Newcastle. They currently run events centered around the premise of providing a source and output of quality dance floor music, choosing intimate and interesting spots to throw parties, in the drive to produce quality events and to establish an ever-evolving collective of people.
I first encountered Texture at their Halloween event at Mansion, where they teamed up with Graffiti/ UV art crew Tekonta Secta and transformed Mansion Underground into a psychedelic glowing cavern, with great music and a really friendly vibe. They have since run regular nights at Sotano as part of their Texture Presents nights, a branch of their Texture Nights, which focuses on running low-key parties as an alternative to an everyday bar night, with their usual friendly crowd.
On 19th February Texture will be hosting their 1st Birthday, inviting down Fuse regular, Joseph Williams, an emerging talent from London to headline the night at Sotano. Joseph Williams’ stripped back beats and groove will fit perfectly in the intimate and warm setting of the underground York bar, alongside support from Texture residents Longman, Slacky and Creature of Habit.
