On Friday Fibbers opens its doors to Tom Edwards, Matt Benyayer and Carlo Anderson, who comprise the DJ collective Dark Sky.
Formed in London in 2009 at music college, Dark Sky draw influences from a variety of genres to create a unique electronic sound. Their amalgamation of UK garage, deep house, jungle and even disco firmly place them as a must see DJ set. Having been noticed by Bristol imprint “Black Acre”, they were then signed and released their debut 12” to great acclaim. That success led to remixes by The XX, Stateless and Delooze. Dark Sky delved further into innovative sounds with a remix of Kelis’ “Brave”, cementing them as a DJ set unafraid to stretch boundaries. Their remix of Glass Animals’ “Hazey” reveals their confidence to put their own spin on genres of music worlds away from their own. Standout contributions of their own work come in the form of “In Brackets”, their 2014 offering released on Mister Saturday Night record label.
While associations with Secret Garden Party and indie clothing label Carhartt show them as appealing to the masses, Dark Sky stay true to their original deep house sound and have a clear direction of where they want to take their music. With recognition from the likes of Modeselektor, Gilles Peterson and Jamie XX, Dark Sky show that creativity and true talent pay off in this competitive electronic market.
“Silent Fall” of their “Imagin” LP is a particular stand out, bringing together heavy synths and clear cut vocals, creating a song which encapsulates their sound perfectly. For the first time listener this is a good starting point but by no means an end point to their music.
With the help of Bangers & Mash and Scratch YSJ, Fibbers hosts a DJ set not to be missed.
