Elections will take place on Thursday 6th November, 8:30pm in V/045.

Anyone can run for any position(s).  No experience is necessary, but it is preferable that you’ve contributed to the magazine in some way previously.  Such contributions can of course be done this week in the run up to elections!

Below are brief descriptions of the positions.  The names of those currently in each position are given so that further questions can be easily addressed to them.

Circulation is a young magazine that’s still figuring out the best way to operate.  As such, positions on the committee are malleable and open to change, depending on the preferences of its members.  These position descriptions are guidelines only and we hope you navigate our ideas with your own strengths, interests and teamwork.

If you would like to run for a position, please nominate yourself by sending us an email stating so. Our email is circulationmagazine@yusu.org; the deadline for this is midday on Wednesday November 5.

At elections, we’d just like a minute-or-so speech to introduce yourself to the room and explain why you’re running.

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Ultimately responsible for the smooth running and progression of the society, and the production of the magazine.

Quite a managerial role – you are coordinating everyone else in the society, as well as working closely with YUSU and perhaps local businesses.

This role is suitable for one person, or two people running as co-editors.

Currently held by: Alice Lawrence

MANAGING DIRECTOR*

Please note that this role covers HARDzine and Zahir as well as Circulation.

Responsible for society finances.  Presides over the HARDzine, Circulation and Zahir shared account, encompassing the financial aspect of membership payment, advertising and allocation of funds to events managers.  Also in charge of an advertising team, responsible for securing advertising and/or sponsorship deals to ensure the magazines are in profit.

This role has optimum cross-over between creative and culture interests, but also lends itself to crucial business, marketing, management, and finance skills.

Currently held by: Lily Grant*

SECRETARY*

Please note that this role covers HARDzine and Zahir as well as Circulation.

Responsible for coordination administration and organisational aspects of the HARDzine-Circulation-Zahir publishing house.  For example, by manning the HCZ email account, and relaying that information to the chief editors and managing director when necessary, as well as acting as coordinator for joint publishing house events, with relevant help of course.

Again, this role has optimum cross-over between creative and culture interests, but also lends itself to crucial business, marketing, management, administration and teamwork skills.

Currently held by: Nat Barker*

Please note that these positions are new-ish, or at least significantly modified from the previous year.

EVENTS MANAGERS

Organise (at least) a termly launch party with live bands and DJs to coincide with the release of each magazine.  As of this year, there will also be joint events encompassing all three members of the publishing house, so this role also means working closely with events managers from HARDzine and Zahir on occasions.

Currently held by: Maisie Kelly & Elizabeth Villanueva Iglesias

PRESS & PUBLICITY

This role is intended to help the magazine gain exposure and visibility across campus, York and in the music industry.  It involves working well with the magazine’s online presence, as well as YUSU and local companies, and keeping promoters, artist PRs etc aware of the magazine.  This role would suit those looking for experience in digital marketing, social media, marketing and PR.

Currently held by: Nancy Saul
