Preview: Brown Brogues, Worm, Junk & Luke Saxton; The Woolpack, Tonight.
York’s Bad Paintings record label have gathered an exciting collection of upcoming artists to play The Woolpack tonight – here’s a little introduction.
(and a little reminder that it’s free entry.)
Brown Brogues are two chaps with feral guitar riffs and primal drum beats from Manchester, fresh from a UK tour last month. There’s a blithe momentum in their songs; the kind of movie soundtrack you’d need while walking away from a scumbag zombie boyfriend. Their Soundcloud has plenty to dig in to, and you can stream the album they released late last year over on Clash.
Worm are a four-piece grunge-noise-rock outfit from York, although they don’t always sound like that, and this song is really sweet:
JUNK. are on the Woolpack bill quite regularly, and we thoroughly suggest catching them in their small and cozy environs. Check out bandmate Danny’s Wolf Solent project too.
Luke Saxton‘s piano-led, swirling numbers take clear influence from the Beatles, but are really rather touching in their own right. You can stream his whole album here:
…And it’s all rounded off by Bad Paintings DJs.
