York

30th September – Bangers & Mash – Fibbers

5th October – Freakin 16th Birthday Party – Mansion
If Bangers & Mash are considered ‘stalwarts’ after one year then what does that make Freakin as they enter their 17th year of partying in York? Legends? Pioneers? Heroes? Whatever adjective you want to use it probably wouldn’t do justice to the tireless work that Rich Clark and Patrick Funk have done over the years to ensure that there is a vibrant underground scene in York. To celebrate their coming of age, they invite Chris Duckenfield and Pipes down to Mansion. Tickets are £6

9th October – 4Four – Courtyard
The second installation of a Boiler room-inspired series, only set in York. From 8pm till 12pm, the York-based Theo, 2Kind, Timoren and Party Guilt’s residents will take over Courtyard with a fine selection of House, Garage and Techno. Oh, and it’s free!

9th October – Gin & Juice – Fibbers
The 90s Hip-Hop night to end all 90s Hip-Hop nights. Circulation Magazine co-founder Jack Luckett is on the ones and twos once again for a night of nostalgia based fun. Tickets are £3.50adv/£4.50otd

10th October – Spector – The Duchess
Hot on the heels of last year’s debut album ‘Enjoy It While It Lasts’ the London indie four-piece Spector set off on a nationwide headline tour. Word on the street is that they’re about to head into the studio with producer de jour Dev Hynes, the man behind Solange and Sky Ferreira’s recent critical acclaim, so check them out before they become world famous. Tickets are £10adv/£12otd

11th October – Troumaca – The Duchess
The Birmingham scene that has this year already given us albums by Peace and Swim Deep was apparently birthed at nights run by Troumaca. Their heady mix of Caribbean rhythms and more dancefloor leaning beats caught the eye of Gilles Peterson who made them the first band signed to his Bronswood Recordings. They subsequently released their dubby debut album ‘The Grace’ which they’re out on tour in support of. Tickets are £6ad/£8otd

11th October – The Dub Lounge – Courtyard
One of the best (and only) good nights actually on the University of York campus, The Dub Lounge promises a potent mix of live music and DJs. Joining regulars Dandy and DeLions are Nubiyan Twist, a band who describe themselves as a ’10 piece Dub, Afro-beast Hip-Hop group’. Closing out the night are City Walls a brand new collaboration between the people who brought you two legends of the York underground music scene: The Marzec Group and Milli Vanilli. Not to be missed. Tickets are £5/£6

11th October – Original Flavour Presents: Paul Woolford & More TBA – Tokyo
Original Flavour is a night originating in Nottingham, and they have chosen to bring their unique brand of House, UK Funky, Garage and Disco to our fair walled city. Their first booking is a blinder, securing the extremely talented Paul Woolford. Along with productions under his own name released on labels such as Scuba’s Hotflush, Woolford has recently been releasing banging jungle-influecned white labels under the Special Request alias (especially his remix of Lana Del Rey’s Ride). Tickets are £8.50/£10

12th October – The Ramona Flowers – The Duchess
Following on from supporting Bastille on tour, The Ramona Flowers embark on their first ever headline tour in anticipation of the release of their debut album. Tickets are £6adv/£8otd

York’s premier Reggae night celebrates its 4th Birthday by welcoming down ‘the North-West’s #1 Soundboy’ MIKEY D.O.N. for a dance. Tickets are £4/£5
